On Tuesday, December 10, 2024, (from 2:45 PM to 6:15 PM in the Álvaro del Portillo Hall), the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, through its School of Philosophy and the Future Students Department, hosted the 2nd University Orientation Day.
The event, entitled Discover and enhance your talent. Choose your path, was the result of a collaboration between the Holy Cross, other civil universities in Rome and Italy, various schools, and numerous high school teachers. It had created an "open round table" as a forum for dialogue between school and university teachers, with the aim of offering young students the best educational and training resources.
The orientation activity was aimed at fourth and fifth-year high school students from Rome and its province and can be included among the orientation activities currently on the school agenda, as indicated by the Ministry of Education and Merit.
The general idea that guides the Holy Cross' approach to orientation is to help students first recognize and name their talents and desires, and then support them in projecting their personality towards a future of university studies closely linked to professional prospects in a wide range of sectors, starting from humanities studies in general and philosophy in particular.
The afternoon program had the following structure:

An inspiring talk of about 30 minutes, in the style of TED Talks, given by Professor Giovanni Maddalena, Full Professor of Theoretical Philosophy, on the topic "Poe's detective and other enigmas. Hypotheses and truths for the philosophers of the future," a topic of broad interest, both for those who are oriented towards a humanities School, for those who aim at a School in the scientific field, and for those who in general are preparing to face these issues in the upcoming Matura exam.

A "Personal talent discovery" workshop with group activities guided by Dr. Gianmarco Machiorlatti and his staff of professional coaches and orientation specialists, who led the students through a process of understanding their own aptitudes and "intelligences."
The event was accredited on the MIM's S.O.F.I.A. platform and was therefore valid as an update activity for teachers.
