On Thursday, May 11, 2023 (3 p.m., John Paul II Auditorium - Urbaniana University), the URBE (Unione Romana Biblioteche Ecclesiastiche) Network inaugurated Parsifal, a linked-data management system and entity discovery platform which facilitates the exchange and interoperability of bibliographic data among the libraries that are union members.
Our Rector, Luis Navarro, was present for the opening remarks, and Stefano Bargioni, deputy director of our library, gave a talk on the changing professionalism of the cataloger.
Our library contributed to the initiative by providing its bibliographic and "authority" data, which was adapted and meticulously organized. It also handled the test-runs during the test phase. Participating in the commissions, established along the project, were catalogers Luigi Gentile and Alberto Gambardella; director Juan Diego Ramírez and deputy Stefano Bargioni are members of the URBE Board of Directors.
PARSIFAL is a technological platform designed in compliance with the BIBFRAME bibliographic model, extended to ensure compatibility with the Library Reference Model, an integral part of the RDA guidelines, adopted by the URBE Network in 2017. It also participates in the Share Family initiative and aims to help users find, identify, select, obtain, and navigate information about books , their creators, and their relationships.
The initiative is a result of the Rectors of the Roman Pontifical Universities seeking to equip the libraries of their institutions with a highly innovative search engine, in adherence with Cruipro. The system is constantly being updated and includes a new search mode, called "entity search," which allows URBE's data to compete with large international cataloging systems.
