Between November 20-22 of 2024, Professor and Father Fernando Puig participated in a gathering of business policy professors at San Telmo Business School in Seville. The meeting provided an excellent platform to showcase the "Purpose and Models of Governance in the Church" research project, a collaborative initiative between the Faculties of Canon Law at the Pontifical University of Holy Cross in Rome and the University of Navarra.
The meeting transcended traditional academic presentations, creating an environment conducive to deep reflection and meaningful exchange. Participants shared a common vision of establishing a forum for study, contemplation, and innovative proposals on governance, where constructive dialogue could foster new insights.
During his presentation, Prof. Puig highlighted a key objective of the project: bridging diverse fields of knowledge. The initiative aims to transcend disciplinary boundaries and explore methodological and thematic intersections between seemingly unrelated areas of study.
To demonstrate this interdisciplinary approach, Prof. Puig presented an analysis of the episcopal appointment system. His presentation went beyond merely outlining the current appointment process, posing thought-provoking questions that encouraged corporate policy experts to examine the system through their professional lens.
Although the presentation ventured outside the typical scope of business policy discussions, it generated considerable interest. Participants engaged actively through questions and observations about Church governance, substantially enriching the project's perspective.
The presentation's success led to several professors expressing interest in continued collaboration. Consequently, Prof. Puig has received an invitation to the 2025 Encounter to explore specific aspects of the "Purpose and Models of Governance in the Church" project in greater detail.
This event exemplifies the project's dedication to fostering open and productive dialogue, successfully bridging the gap between ecclesiastical knowledge and professional expertise to advance institutional governance practices.
