The Pontifical University of the Holy Cross and the Isaac Abarbanel University Institute (Buenos Aires), the first Jewish university in Latin America, propose an experience of study and dialogue in Rome. Open to students from all pontifical universities, this course aims to explore an emblematic text of the Scriptures - the Decalogue - from the different perspectives of Judaism and Christianity. The Decalogue, repeated twice within the Torah/Pentateuch, has influenced both traditions' morals, spirituality, theology and doctrine; it is a basis for dialogue between them and contemporary culture. The lessons will be held by professors from Italy, Argentina, and the Holy Land, Jews and Christians; a conversation between the two traditions will be encouraged. The academic programme will be completed with visits to the Vatican Apostolic Library, to learn about the ancient Hebrew and Greek manuscripts preserved there. The program also includes a workshop on symbolic places of common history in Rome.
The course has a value of 3 ECTS for the License in theology. The lessons will be in English. A basic knowledge of Biblical Hebrew is required.
