On Monday, June 5, 2023, (5 p.m. in the Aula Magna Giovanni Paolo II) the book My Years with John Paul II - Personal Notes by Joaquín Navarro-Valls, Director of the Holy See Press Office for more than two decades, was presented.
Written as a diary and published at the author's behest after his death, the volume offers not only an interesting glimpse into the behind-the-scenes work of the Holy See, but also reveals some of the great problems humanity has ever faced, which deeply concerned the Holy Father. The book, above all, provides valuable details of the pope's daily life. Navarro-Valls' recollections once again showcase John Paul II's extraordinary communication skills throughout his ministry. At the same time, the pair was united in a special, professional and fraternal relationship, built on trust, irony, and sincere affection. Through Navarro-Valls' gaze and a rich photographic collection – some images made public for the first time – readers are able to retrace the highlights of John Paul II's papacy.
Moderated by journalist Valentina Alazraki, the roundtable was attended together Prof. Diego Contreras, who edited the volume on behalf of the School of Communication, Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin; Giovanni Grasso, Spokesman for the President of the Republic; p. Federico Lombardi, SJ, President of the Fondazione Joseph Ratzinger; Lina Petri, Fondazione Vaticana Giovanni Paolo I, and Francesco Rutelli, former mayor of Rome.
